Which are the largest ski resorts in the world

At the last count there are 5787 ski resorts in the world!

So which are the biggest?

There are different measurements but using skiable pistes in kms, here we go for the top 5:

  1. 660kms. Les 3 Vallees (France) – That’s Courcheval, Meribel and Val Thorens which include La Tania, La Praz, Les Menuires, St Martin de Bellville and a few others.
  2. 433kms. Sella Ronda (Italy) – Includes Badia, Corvara, SElva, Arabba and Canazei. Many say it’s the most dramatic and beautiful.
  3. 433kms. Les Portes du Soleil – Morzine, Avoriaz, Chatel, Morgins and Champery and spans across the Swiss/French border.
  4. 425kms. Paradiski – La Plagne, Les Arcs and its many prettier satellite villages including Vallandry, Montchavin, Les Coches
  5. 412kms. 4 Vallees (Switzerland) – Verbier and its satellite villages.

Some surprise omissions like Val D’Isere and Tignes, Montgenevre and The Milky Way, Whistler, Blackcomb and Aspen. Well there isn’t much difference and these resorts are all substantial. Some lay claim to the most skiable off piste terrain. It is what it is and no doubt some will contest. To be honest, anything with over 150kms of pistes will keep most skiers entertained for a week.
