Skiing during Covid

We believe that a winter ski holiday is a way of offering some of the most natural social distancing and this combined with a family and friends catch up makes it the perfect choice for a holiday on the planet this season.

As the essence of this type of holiday means that you are outside in the fresh air for most of every day it means that it is one of the best ways to social distance and the perfect choice if you want to get away from it all for a holiday this winter. As you will also be wearing goggles, sunglasses, gloves or mittens a snow jacket (over several layers!) and waterproof salopettes you will be fully covered !

The French government and the ski resorts are not taking this pandemic or your health and safety lightly. From all of the mountain restaurants with large outdoor areas to the aprés ski bars with patio heaters there is plenty of socially distanced seating which means if you do choose to have your favourite drink you are outdoors in the fresh mountain air. On each chair lift there are stringent regulations which will ensure your health and safety at all times.

Alpinium catered chalets – the ever popular favourite ski holiday model has adapted, meaning in these different times they work even better in these changed conditions.

You will still be pampered in one of our stunning chalets, meaning

  • You are never forced to be in public places such as supermarkets, bars, and restaurants.
  • Your mature and experienced chalet hosts look after you, so you can sit back and enjoy your holiday.
  • You can plan a special break with your family to get away from it all and share precious time together.
  • There’s plenty of space inside and out to admire the beauty of the mountains.

Booking one of our chalets means you have

  • We offer hand picked free flowing inclusive wines so no need to venture into bars.

We have all made changes to keep your ski holiday experience safe at this time

Every ski resort is working tirelessly on safety this season. The ski industry is a big part of life in the French Alps and so its inhabitants have been planning its arrival for this season for many months and have implemented many changes to provide peace of mind for all snowsports enthusiasts who want to come to the mountains this winter.

The France-Montagne Association (the association for lift operating companies and tourism organisation throughout France) has set out its plans regarding safety measures that it has implemented for skiing this winter

  • Masks will be compulsory in lift queues and on lifts, however they will not be required when you are actually skiing.
  • There will be frequent disinfection of all contact areas often multiple times per day.
  • Hydroalcoholic gel must be made available during the ski rental process. There will be compulsory wearing of masks when renting ski equipment. All equipment to be disinfected between users.
  • Restaurants and bars will only offer table service and the tables should be at least 1 metre apart.  Masks should be worn when moving around the restaurant or bar and hydroalcoholic  gel must always be available. Contact surfaces will be regularly cleaned.
  • Parents of children attending ski school, will be required to wear face masks both indoors and outdoors.
  • Children aged 11 and over must also wear a mask on lifts and in lift queues. Hydroalcoholic gel will be available, along with frequent surface disinfection. Any loaned equipment will be disinfected between users.
  • Masks will also be compulsory on resort transport including ski shuttles, ordinary bus service and on the little train which runs between lifts.
  • Physical distancing will be implemented in queues.
  • You are encouraged to pre-order ski passes to reduce the build-up of people at lift stations.
